You know the word.

Someone asks you something in English.

And suddenly your brain goes:

“Wait… I KNOW this.”

Nothing comes.

You somehow finish the conversation.

If this happens to you often, here’s the important part:

You may not have a vocabulary problem.

You may have a recall problem.

Try This 10-Second Test

What English word would you use for:

1. Extremely tired…

2. Moving a meeting to a later date…

3. Not really willing to do something…

Answers:

Exhausted

Postpone

Reluctant

You probably knew these words.

But did they come instantly?

Why This Happens

Think of vocabulary in two boxes:

👀 Words you recognise

Someone says:

“I’m overwhelmed.”

You immediately understand them.

🗣️ Words you can recall

Someone asks:

“How are you feeling with all this work?”

And overwhelmed comes to your mind by itself.

Those two boxes are not always the same size.

That’s why you can watch English videos perfectly…

…and still get stuck while speaking.

The Vocabulary Mistake Most People Make

Word → Meaning → Next Word
Word → Situation → Sentence → Recall

Use the 3–2–1 Rule

Whenever you learn an English word:

3 – Imagine 3 situations

Where could I actually use this?

2 – Make 2 sentences

Preferably about your own life.

1 – Recall it tomorrow

Without looking at the word first.

Example:

Overwhelmed

Situation 1: Too much office work

Situation 2: Too many assignments

Situation 3: Too many things going wrong together

Sentences:

“I’ve been overwhelmed with work lately.”

“She felt overwhelmed by everything happening at once.”

Tomorrow ask yourself:

What word would I use when everything feels like too much?

If overwhelmed appears…

that’s progress.

And When You Forget a Word While Speaking?

Do not stop the entire conversation.

Can’t remember receipt?

Instead of:

“Umm… wait… I know this word…”

Say:

“The paper they give you after you pay.”

This is a speaking skill too.

Fluency doesn’t mean:

“I never forget a word.”

It means:

“One forgotten word can’t stop me from speaking.”

If You Learn Words but Forget Them While Speaking…

Learning more words isn’t always the answer.

Sometimes you need to make the words you learn more memorable.

That’s also the idea behind Vocabmetry®, the vocabulary-learning methodology used by DLC The Learning Club.

Instead of treating vocabulary like:

Word → Definition → Memorise

Vocabmetry uses stories, characters and visual associations to make words easier to connect with something memorable.

So if your biggest problem is:

“I learn vocabulary, but the word doesn’t come when I actually need it…”

you can explore Vocabmetry® and the Vocabulary Course by DLC The Learning Club. Because knowing a word is useful.

But remembering it at the right moment is what actually changes your English.
